Prof. DesJardins speaks on the role of food in understanding religion
Prof. Michel Desjardins is Prof. Emeritus of Religion and Culture, and Associate Dean, Research and Curriculum at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada:
The main focus of my research is the role that food plays in people’s spiritual lives. I have conducted much of that research with my wife, Ellen Desjardins (a nutritionist and geographer). During the past 7 years our fieldwork has taken us across Canada and to countries and communities around the world.
I also conduct research on university programs that foster engaged learning. I have worked closely with Joanne Benham Rennick on the values embedded in academic programs that encourage learning outside Canada, and engaged learning locally.
