The Power of Interdisciplinary and Interfaith Synergy
At the University of Nairobi, we consistently advocate for interdisciplinary solutions to complex
regional and global challenges. Yet, we rarely extend this invitation far enough into the realm of
faith. The HWPL dialogue, hosted elegantly at the Harmony Institute on June 27/26 from 14:00 to 16:00 (EAT), proved that scriptural texts hold untapped, transformative potential for mobilizing grassroots
environmental action.

Step out onto the streets of Nairobi today, and you will see a city caught between immense promise and existential strain. From the bustling stalls of Gikomba to the lecture halls of the University of Nairobi, our conversations are no longer just about the economy or politics they are about the weather. We talk about the erratic rains that flood our informal settlements, the scorching dry spells that drive up the price of sukuma wiki, and the heavy toll environmental degradation takes on our families.

As a premier institution of learning, the University of Nairobi has always been more than just a space for academic excellence; it is a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and beliefs. Recently, our campus community had the privilege of hosting a vital interfaith conference that brought together scholars, religious leaders, and students. The goal wasn't just to talk about our differences, but to focus on the shared pillars that can hold up our society: justice and dignity from both Islamic and Christian perspectives.

On June 23, 2026, Dr, Sheikh Hassan Kinyua Omari, the chairman anti corruption and complaints committee, also lecturer, Philosophy and religious studies department, had the privilege of holding a highly productive consultative meeting with Hon. Paul Kados Kiguathi, the Deputy Speaker of the Nairobi County
Assembly and Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Mihang'o Ward. Hosted at his
Nairobi City Hall office, the discussions focused intensely on two pillars critical to the
structural evolution of our capital: expanding high-quality educational access and

 Dr. Jacinta Maweu from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies recently joined leading global Africanists in Prague for the prestigious 10th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 2025). The major international conference ran from June 25th to 28th, 2025, operating under the central theme: “African, Afropean, Afropolitan.”

Hosted by the relaxed and culturally rich venues of Prague, ECAS 2025 served as a critical platform for transdisciplinary dialogue on African affairs, political economies, cultures, and global relationships.

The University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, in collaboration with the Society for Applied Philosophy (SAP) and ETHICSLAB, successfully hosted a two-day regional seminar addressing pressing global and local issues through a philosophical lens.

Dr. Jacinta Maweu, a leading scholar from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy, traveled to Aotearoa New Zealand to present groundbreaking research at the 30th International Peace Research Association (IPRA) General Conference. Held from November 5th to 8th, 2025, at the Devon Hotel in New Plymouth, Taranaki, the conference brought together the world's foremost peace researchers, academics, and grassroots practitioners under the theme "Peace, Resistance, and Reconciliation".

 Dr. Jacinta Maweu, a seasoned academic from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy, recently represented the institution on the global stage at the prestigious Reimagining Identity Conference. The event took place from February 3rd to 5th, 2026, at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, in Kingston, Jamaica.

During the conference, Dr. Maweu presented a compelling research paper that aligns with her extensive work in political philosophy, media, and societal dynamics.

Recently, I had the profound privilege of addressing the Annual Chaplaincy Conference organized by the National Association of Christian Chaplains (NACC), hosted at St. Paul’s University. Standing before an audience of dedicated Christian spiritual leaders as a Muslim scholar from the University of Nairobi and the Chair of the Muslim Professionals League Africa (MUPLA) was a beautiful demonstration of what our nation needs most: genuine, respectful interfaith collaboration.

On June 3, 2026, I had the honor of attending a milestone event hosted by the Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta Kenya) in Nairobi. The occasion marked the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Posta Kenya and the government of the Russian Federation, focusing on bilateral cooperation in cultural matters.
