Welcome to the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Nairobi.
The department is dedicated to teaching and research. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the following areas: Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Human Rights. We also offer service courses to other departments and faculties within the university.
Our programs and courses aim at equipping the learner with critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to navigate an increasingly complex, multicultural and diverse world. Currently, the department has 21 members of academic staff.
We are particularly strong in such areas as African Philosophy, African Traditional Religions, Comparative Religion, African Social and Political Philosophy, and Ethics. Our graduates are to be found in a wide variety of careers, including academia, media, law, business, advocacy, clergy, advertising, and charity work across Kenya and the globe.
We invite you to explore our website and hope that you will find our department an exciting and welcoming place. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us for any further information.
