Abstract

How did the controversy between anthropocentric and ecocentric worldviews impact on the 2030 Agenda sustainability discourses on the UN level and in Kenya? Are different values, attitudes and philosophical assumptions visible in Kenya in comparison to the UN discourse? How can the differences be explained? These research questions are addressed by Tatjana Kuhn in her PhD project which she is conducting at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Ms. Kuhn is working at the intersection of political science and environmental philosophy. Her thesis is a discourse analysis informed by theoretical considerations of Jürgen Habermas and Michael Foucault. Methodologically, Ms. Kuhn is applying a qualitative case study method in which she uses a code-based qualitative content analysis on a number of empirical sources such as semi-structured interviews, official government reports, newspaper articles and scientific papers.
