Dr. Jacinta Maweu, a leading scholar from the University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy, traveled to Aotearoa New Zealand to present groundbreaking research at the 30th International Peace Research Association (IPRA) General Conference. Held from November 5th to 8th, 2025, at the Devon Hotel in New Plymouth, Taranaki, the conference brought together the world's foremost peace researchers, academics, and grassroots practitioners under the theme "Peace, Resistance, and Reconciliation".  This historic gathering marked the first time the global conference was hosted on indigenous lands—near the historic Parihaka Pā, a renowned birthplace of non-violent passive resistance.  Showcasing African Philosophy on a Global StageAs seen in the image, Dr. Maweu delivered a plenary presentation titled:"Unity in Diversity: Building a culture of Peace through the Undugu and Ujirani Mwema philosophy"Her presentation advocated for leveraging local, indigenous African values—specifically Undugu (brotherhood/kinship) and Ujirani Mwema (good neighborliness)—as vital, transdisciplinary frameworks for conflict transformation and sustainable peacebuilding in a fractured world. Her insights resonated strongly with the conference's focus on incorporating indigenous wisdom into mainstream peace and security discourses.  A Legacy of Transdisciplinary LeadershipDr. Maweu’s contribution to the conference highlights her deep, 19-year portfolio in university research and teaching, where she bridges the gaps between Philosophy, Media Studies, and Society.
