Overview
Philosophy of the Program
This programme is guided by the need to foster critical and creative thinking skills among students. As the ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates, once said ‘the unexamined life is not worth living’. This dictum aptly captures the importance of philosophy. The pursuit of philosophy provides students with an opportunity to critically and rationally examine themselves, their beliefs and values, with a view of discarding or revising those that are not justifiable.
The Rationale of the Program
The study of philosophy enhances our ability to think carefully and critically. It also enhances our ability to communicate clearly and persuasively and to solve problems. These skills are transferable and are in high demand in a wide variety of careers, including business, communication, law, public policy, advertising, media, and information technology.
The goal of this program is to enrich and deepen learners’ knowledge of philosophy and provide them with the necessary skills needed to proceed to a PhD degree through research.
