Bridging Faiths Through Dialogue: Scriptural Reasoning at the University of Nairobi

An evening of interfaith reflection and respect, exploring religious pluralism through sacred texts.

On June 24th, 2025, the 8-4-4 Block at the University of Nairobi Main Campus hosted a Scriptural Reasoning session under the theme “Religious Pluralism and Respect.” The event, organized by the University of Nairobi, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in collaboration with Harmony Institute, brought together students, faith leaders, and scholars for a meaningful evening of interreligious dialogue centered on sacred texts.

Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari, who was the study leader in the session, encouraged participants to approach scripture with humility and openness, seeking shared understanding rather than debate.

Among the speakers was Dr. Patrick Nyabul, who reflected deeply on the essence of unity and divine creation. He reminded the audience that no one chooses their birthplace and urged them to love God with all their heart, mind, and spirit—and to love their neighbor as themselves. Citing the Tower of Babel and the Qur’an’s recognition of diverse tongues and colors as signs of God’s creation, he emphasized that our differences are intentional and beautiful. He added that no fingerprint has ever been or will be the same, underlining the uniqueness of every human being.

Also present was Dr. Erkan, the Director Harmony Institute.

The session offered more than theological insight—it fostered a spirit of mutual respect and coexistence. Participants explored sacred texts from the Bible, the Qur’an, and other traditions, uncovering shared values such as justice, compassion, and peace. The event ended with a collective affirmation that interfaith dialogue is not just necessary, but essential for building understanding in today’s divided world.
