Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari dedicates Equity Leadership Program (ELP) Scholars – Class of 2026

Nairobi, Kenya – 17 February 2026. Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari, Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies, University of Nairobi, today delivered a motivational address and led a dedication and prayer session for 733 Equity Leadership Program (ELP) Scholars—Class of 2026—during a ceremony hosted by Equity Bank (Kenya) Ltd and Equity Group Foundation at Sportsview Hotel, Kasarani.

The session brought together top-performing scholars drawn from three categories: 337 Wings to Fly and Elimu scholars who attained Grades A and A–; 106 sub-county top boys and girls who achieved Grade A (Plain); and 290 top national scholars who earned Grade A with 84 points. The ELP, established in 1998, is a flagship Equity Group initiative that combines access to higher education with leadership development, mentorship, and exposure, including a highly competitive paid internship component for top KCSE performers.

Speaking to the scholars, Dr. Kinyua emphasized leadership as a sacred trust anchored in ethics, service, and responsibility to community. He applauded Equity Group Foundation’s investment in youth leadership, noting that the ELP’s approach goes beyond financing education to shaping values-driven, transformative leaders for Kenya and the region.

In his acceptance message to Equity Group leadership ahead of the event, Dr. Kinyua described the Foundation’s work as “visionary,” commending its role in nurturing talent and strengthening opportunities for young people across East Africa. He further highlighted the alignment between the ELP’s mission and his own community-focused leadership engagements, including professional mentorship and ethical stewardship initiatives.

Dr. James Mwangi, CBS—Executive Chairman, Equity Group Foundation, and Group CEO and Managing Director, Equity Group Holdings Plc.—invited Dr. Kinyua to lead the dedication session as part of Equity’s continued commitment to developing a pipeline of high-achieving scholars prepared for future impact across Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Rwanda.

Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari is a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies, University of Nairobi. He is also Chairman of the Muslim Professionals League Africa (MUPLA) and serves as Head of Education and Training at the East Africa Translators and Interpreters Association (EAITA). His academic and professional background spans religion and leadership, interfaith relations, Arabic–Swahili translation and interpretation, and legal studies, with extensive experience in mentorship, facilitation, and community engagement.
