Department Hosts Successful Seminar on Applied Philosophy and Contemporary Societal Challenges Nairobi, Kenya

The University of Nairobi’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, in collaboration with the Society for Applied Philosophy (SAP) and ETHICSLAB, successfully hosted a two-day regional seminar addressing pressing global and local issues through a philosophical lens.

The high-level academic gathering brought together seasoned scholars, local researchers, and international collaborators to unpack how philosophical inquiry, critical thinking, and ethical frameworks can offer practical solutions to modern societal crises—ranging from political ethics and human rights to environmental concerns and technological disruptions.

Fostering Local and International Collaboration
As captured in the group photograph, the seminar served as a vibrant hub for intellectual exchange. Among the prominent organizers and key participants present was Dr. Jacinta Maweu, Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari who is a lecturer at the University of Nairobi and also, the CEO of Peace League Africa, whose extensive research interests in political philosophy, media ethics, gender, and environmental philosophy directly reflect the core themes debated during the two-day event.

The seminar underscored the Department's ongoing mission to bridge abstract philosophical theory with transdisciplinary, real-world application, proving that philosophy remains an essential tool for navigating contemporary human dilemmas.

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies extends its sincere gratitude to the Society for Applied Philosophy (SAP), ETHICSLAB, and all the delegates whose presentations and insights made this seminar a resounding success.
