Islamic Teachings on Animal Welfare and Stewardship

During the award ceremony,  Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari was honored to deliver a keynote speech focused on Islamic perspectives on animal welfare and ethical care. In a fast paced world that often measures success solely by trophies and performance, Islamic jurisprudence reminds us that animals are a sacred trust (Amanah) placed in human care.

Kenya is a vibrant, pluralistic society anchored by a robust constitutional framework. Under Article 170 of the Constitution of Kenya, the Kadhi’s Court system is explicitly recognized to handle matters of personal status such as marriage, divorce, and inheritance among members of the Muslim faith.
