We talk about the erratic rains that flood our informal settlements, the scorching dry spells that drive up the price of sukuma wiki, and the heavy toll environmental degradation takes on our families.

As a premier institution of learning, the University of Nairobi has always been more than just a space for academic excellence; it is a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and beliefs. Recently, our campus community had the privilege of hosting a vital interfaith conference that brought together scholars, religious leaders, and students. The goal wasn't just to talk about our differences, but to focus on the shared pillars that can hold up our society: justice and dignity from both Islamic and Christian perspectives.

Recently, I had the profound privilege of addressing the Annual Chaplaincy Conference organized by the National Association of Christian Chaplains (NACC), hosted at St. Paul’s University. Standing before an audience of dedicated Christian spiritual leaders as a Muslim scholar from the University of Nairobi and the Chair of the Muslim Professionals League Africa (MUPLA) was a beautiful demonstration of what our nation needs most: genuine, respectful interfaith collaboration.

On June 3, 2026, I had the honor of attending a milestone event hosted by the Postal Corporation of Kenya (Posta Kenya) in Nairobi. The occasion marked the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Posta Kenya and the government of the Russian Federation, focusing on bilateral cooperation in cultural matters.

As an academic rooted in philosophy and religious studies, I often reflect on how the values we teach in higher education institutions like the University of Nairobi translate into our foundational schooling systems. Academic excellence cannot thrive in an environment devoid of peace, mentorship, and structured communication.

On 31st May 2025, Dr. Hassan Kinyua Omari representing the University of Nairobi - Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the Muslim Professionals League Africa, he explored the spiritual and political dimensions of religious leadership as envisioned by Iman Khomeini and Ayatullah Khamenei. The event was hosted by the Cultural Centre for the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

The title of the presentation was "Religious Legitimacy and Moral Authority of Leadership in a faith Governed Society".
